The Nervous System and Associated Conditions
This two-hour workshops tackles the nervous system. The workshop firstly looks at the structure and function of the nervous system as well as establishing the inter-relationship that it has with the endocrine system.
Once you have an understanding of the nervous system, we take a deeper look at many neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and Stroke. We look at the presenting signs and symptoms as well as what to expect when you are presented with a client with one of these conditions.
A range of functional activities are discussed that can be incorporated into your exercise programming. Some of these activities may be appropriate for some clients, whilst others may only be able to achieve more basic functional activities. Some, of course, may excel and progress over time.
Disease progression is discussed and how that affects the body overall. The workshop also looks at exercise modification and progression (if appropriate) as well as how and what to focus on when teaching clients who have these neurological diseases. This workshop will help many Pilates Teachers gain more confidence in their teaching of neurological conditions.
